Fusion of Jamaican music and jazz.
Drop Collective is a ten piece band created at the end of 2016 in Barcelona. The great jazz scene of the city brought together musicians that found a common sound between the jazz tradition and the Jamaican rhythms. Since then, they explore new sounds, using the unique wind section with a jazz approach and the effects from reggae music & dub music. Everything merges on the top of a solid rhythm section and is conducted by the voice through lyrics that share messages of love, freedom, and respect.
The versatility of jazz music and the groove of Jamaican rhythms are the combination that characterizes their music, complemented with a powerful live show that makes you dance from the top until the last note.
They have played in stages such as Rototom Sunsplash 2023, Voll-Damm Festival Internacional de Jazz de Barcelona, Nowa Reggae Festival, and other reggae and jazz festivals from Spain. They shared festival stage with Toots & the Maytals, The Skatalites, Dr. Ring Ding (colab.), Doreen Shaffer, Ky-Mani Marley, The Melodians and Kabaka Pyramid.
Their discographic career started with "Stormin’" (La Panchita Records, 2018), their first album with the collaborations of Dr. Ring Ding, Gorka Benítez and Chalart 58.
At the end of 2019, they recorded "What a difference" a single that was the opening song for the compilation "Jamaicat" (Liquidator Music, 2020). A double vinyl full of jamaican vibes from Catalunya.
In 2020, after the pandemic, they released the first original song, "My Daylight" (La Panchita Records), together with a new video.
At the beginning of 2021 they recorded "Come Shine" (Brixton Records) the second album and the consolidation of the project, in wich they included more original songs like "My favorite phrase", "Be the storm" and "Come shine". Each one of them with a unique colour, consequence of the different composers writing for the collective, but united for the unique sound of the band.
In 2022, they released two new works, one 7" with the song "Lágrimas Negras" (Brixton Records) and "Drop Collective meets Chalart58: In Dub" (Brixton Records) , a compilation of dubs made by Chalart58. In the same year, the second volume of Jamaicat was published by Liquidator Music, with the presence of "I'm so sad you're leaving" an energic tune also present in "Come Shine" (Brixton Records).
This 2023 they are producing the third album. The first single will be aviable on October. The album will include original songs and jazz standatds, following the style of the collective, but for the first time, they will also include lyrics in catalan.
