Fusion of Jamaican music and jazz.
Drop Collective is a ten-piece band created at the end of 2016 in Barcelona. The great jazz scene of the city brought together musicians that found a common sound between the Jazz tradition and Jamaican rhythms. Since then, they continue to explore new sounds, incorporating stylistic resources and effects from Reggae and Dub music. Everything comes together through the voice and lyrics that share messages of love, freedom, and respect.
The versatility of Jazz music and the groove of Jamaican rhythms are the combination that defines the music, complemented with a powerful live show, characterized by its ability to make you dance.
They have played in stages such as Rototom Sunsplash, Voll-Damm Festival Internacional de Jazz de Barcelona, Nowa Reggae Festival, and other reggae and jazz festivals around Spain. They have shared festival stages with Toots & the Maytals, The Skatalites, New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble, Dr. Ring Ding, Doreen Shaffer, Ky-Mani Marley, The Melodians and Kabaka Pyramid.
Their discographic career started with "Stormin’" (La Panchita Records, 2018), their first album with collaborations from Dr. Ring Ding, Gorka Benítez and Chalart 58.
At the end of 2019, they recorded "What a difference" a single that was the opening song for the compilation "Jamaicat" (Liquidator Music, 2020), a double vinyl full of Jamaican vibes from Catalonia.
In 2020, they released their first original song, "My Daylight" (La Panchita Records), together with a new video.
At the beginning of 2021 they recorded "Come Shine" (Brixton Records) their second album and the consolidation of the project, in which they included more original songs like "My favorite phrase", "Be the storm" and "Come Shine". Due to the different composers writing for the collective, each new song leads itself to a distinct color, yet bringing together a united sound on the album.
In 2022, they released two new works, one 7" with the song "Lágrimas Negras" (Brixton Records) and "Drop Collective meets Chalart58: In Dub" (Brixton Records), a compilation of Dub music made by the producer Chalart58. In the same year, the second volume of Jamaicat was published by Liquidator Music, including "I'm so sad you're leaving" a powerful song also present in the album "Come Shine" (Brixton Records).
This 2024, they released their 3rd LP "Inside" (Brixton Records), where they reaffirm their Ska-Reggae-Jazz musical identity without ceasing to move towards new colors and styles. The two sides of the album are clearly differentiated: Side A, Inside-Out, consists of 5 original tracks, 3 in Catalan and 2 in English. Reggae is the main style of this side, and the lyrics connect with the maturity that the collective is acquiring. Side B, Outside-In, consists of 4 powerful and festive standards performed in a Ska-Jazz style. The album features a collaboration from Joan Mar Sauqué on the trumpet, in the song "Yearnin'" by Oliver Nelson.
